Wood Facts:

• Juglans Nigra, AKA “American Walnut,” is one of 70 species of walnut trees in the Juglandaceae plant family. Walnut trees are known for their hard, durable wood and the nuts they provide, which are rich in fat and protein.
• Other Walnut plants (yes, trees are plants!) in the family include Hickories, Butternuts, and the English Walnut Juglans Regia (AKA Persian walnut or Madeira Nut) that produces the commercial walnuts we eat!
• Spalting is a natural phenomenon that occurs when fungus colonize the tissue fiber of wood, creating pigmentation and stunning character. Coloring and Spalting patterns vary depending on the species of fungus and the species of wood.

• Opening: 7in x 9in
• Exterior: 9 in  x 11 in  x 1.5 in deep, can be use in horizontal or vertical orientation

Materials include:

• WNY black walnut wood frame with spalted maple splines and inlay, glass, backing, and grooves for hanging.
• Hand finished with natural oils and wax to seal and protect the wood, no stains or dyes are used.
• Every frame is crafted with care from hand selected boards that preserve the curious details and life story of the tree they come from.
